Why do leftist-liberals and social democrats look to social engineering to solve society’s problems?

"Insanity Paradox" reminds me of why I don’t agree with the Left. Why would I want to live in a Communist society or a tribal, hunter-gatherer society? Never thought of moving to Somalia or China.

The tendency to give an advantage to favoured groups is by no means limited to "leftist-liberals and social democrats" – how about the "old school tie" set?
