I saw something about it on the odd couple show, I believe Felix was considered dead and they heard some honking going on.

It’s possible that homogenous behaviors (e.g., expressing grief) occuring in "mass" may have to do with group dynamics. Perhaps research on herd mentality may be helpful in answering your question.
