I think that’s a complicated question. But I think the answer to one part of it is yes. However, religion is not the group that uses hypnotic suggestion. The government via the media and large corporations do as well.

I don’t believe so. Most religious services do not facilitate a hypnotic state of complete relaxation. In many cases, movement, standing, singing just don’t facilitate that state.
I’ve been hypnotized before and contrary to what some people may think about the state – I was in complete control of what I chose to do.

This follows a very old saying if you tell people something often enough they will eventually believe it.
Russia was superb at this indoctrination of the masses was an art form. Sensorship of the press the media music everything that was likely to corrupt !! No sorry inform was the word I was looking for!
Religion does the same, something for which we have no solid evidemce providing an excellent control mechanism for millions who have a misguided and total belief in a mythhical concept.
The power of suggestion is astonishing and very powerful often for all the wrong ends.
You could just as easily believe in Santa Claus, at least he has never to my knowledge had anyone killed in the name of Christmas.
