    Richard Bandler has …
Richard Bandler has a bunch of great books on NLP. Derren Brown recommends a few in his book Tricks of the Mind. Namely, “Frogs into Princes”, “Trance-formations”, and “persuasion engineering”. He also says the eye-accessing cues have limited use, and may differ between people, so watch out on that part.

    If I’m walking down …
If I’m walking down the street and a Chiropractor I’ve never met notices me favoring my back, tackles me to the ground, and adjusts my back, that’s one thing. If I walk into a Chiropractor’s office, and request and receive an adjustment, that’s something quite different. What’s the difference? Explicit, overt, permission. NLP can be effectively used without permission, but that does not mean such use is ethical. Like a baseball bat, NLP is neither “bad” nor “good.”

  7. kirkvandenberghe Says:

    Derren is not …
Derren is not demonstrating the Swish Technique. Instead, he is using Submodality Mapping, with image location being one of the “drivers.” Anchoring can be a co-element to any NLP technique, and Derren is using many types of anchors. While it appears the technique “works” (really, there’s no way we can know if the girl was a “plant” or not), my comments are not an endorsement or criticism of Derren or his work; I don’t have enough information to do so.

  8. kirkvandenberghe Says:

    From an NLP …
From an NLP standpoint, we’re always *influencing* everyone around us through our verbal and non-verbal behavior. However, if you look up the the dictionary definition of “manipulation,” you’ll see something similar to: “exerting shrewd or devious influence especially for one’s own advantage.” The original NLP coding–including “The NLP Presuppositions”–did not include explicit beliefs or values regarding ethics. Some of the early NLP developers manipulated, but others were permission oriented.

    What I’m noticing …
What I’m noticing is that this isn’t so much a swish pattern as it is anchoring and just simple suggestion. 1:17 he mimes he cards on the table then he does that eye thing “plant a little seed..” pointing to the first card’s position he JUST mimed then doing that rolling thing to suggest all the other cards changing. Does that make sense? That’s what I see at least. He anchors doubt and certainty. Swish pattern does more of taking an image shrinking it and bringing up a different one etc. *shrug

  11. hyptalk Says:

    It’s completely …
It’s completely ignorant to think you don’t manipulate. Everything you do manipulates your situation. The definition of manipulate to influence skillfully. You dress to manipulate. You wear fragrance. You come to a job interview with the intent to manipulate the boss to give you a job, get a raise. You manipulate your spouse, your kids to do what you want them to do. Everyone does it. It comes down to your intention. Is it going to be hurtful or harmful to that person?

    I’m not sure what …
I’m not sure what you think NLP is man and I can see you haven’t the slightest clue. If you’re gonna see everything in that mind frame then you may as well stay home forever.. because Ads tell you what to buy the news scares the out of you with swine flu BS. I know NLP WORKS. My students have learned to play guitar quickly. and I don’t think that type of manipulation is bad because it benefits them. My daughter learned how to spell using NLP and spelling is good. Thanks for trying though!

  14. SlickSwiftProduction Says:

    If two people agree …
If two people agree on a kiss because they both really love each other, no one is being manipulated.

If you get someone to do something WITHOUT their consious consent, then its manipulation, which is what NLP is (if it works, which from what i’ve seen it does).

So lets get this straight, consent is fine, manpulation is bad, all the time, period.

    on tapes? seminars? DVDs?

  16. goodbeingtheking Says:

    you are absolutely …
you are absolutely right… and I wonder if you have ever told a friend about a movie, and that friend goes and see it, or if you have ever dated anyone and got them to kiss you, because that is influence and influence is a form of manipulation. and if that person really liked that movie and the person loved to kiss you then you are a good manipulator.

When he convinces her the yellow card is red, it is reflecting colour from the red seat.

  18. joshie92 Says:

    notice how he …
notice how he associates uncertainty with him touching her left shoulder and certainty with her right shoulder. also his tone of voice changes when switching from uncertainty to certainty.

  19. SlickSwiftProduction Says:

    yeesh I really need …
yeesh I really need to stop commenting on youtube but ~ no your wrong, NLP, if it works, would be manipulative, good or bad it is MANIPULATIVE, and you should never be manipulated, people need to choose things for themselves.

  20. lorenzopaletti Says:

    It’s not about the …
It’s not about the NLP itself. It’s about how it is “sold”.

  21. mcolynuck Says:

    NLP is neither good …
NLP is neither good or bad. Is a hammer bad because you can kill with it or good because you can build a home for a family?

It’s all YOU! You are going to do a good thing or a bad thing because of your beliefs, situation, morals, character.

  22. ricardas83 Says:

    I think I agree, …
    I think I agree, yes.

  23. goodbeingtheking Says:

    there is good …
there is good police and bad police, good sales and bad sales, good NLP and Bad NLP, There are men that have a fear of approaching women, it scares them, NLP teaches them how to make the picture of rejection small & imagine them being successful with women & make that picture BIGGER!!! so that they can feel the succes and feel sure of themselves.,then they can have love… that is good yes? some use it to have sex and not respect women… yes that is bad! NOT ALL NLP IS BAD… MANY IS GOOD!

  24. ricardas83 Says:

    No, I am not. Do I …
No, I am not. Do I have to be certified?
OK, you talk about nice things, as people get better, but you talk about therapy. I am not against this. And what therapy has to do with selling things and dragging easy women to bed??? Great if you use NLP to cure people’s mind, but what if you use people’s fears to obtrude some for 100$ of each??? Are you for using NLP for cheat for girl in BAR? If you are not, then we are on agreement.

  25. goodbeingtheking Says:

    are you NLP …
are you NLP certified ricardas83? My guess would be “NO”… You call NLP Manipulative? and I’m Glad that it is… Its helped thousands of people overcome fobias, fear of public speaking, fears of dating, and forget about abuses they’ve had in the past. I’ve helped kids Learn To Play Guitar Faster! To keep them off the streets. Using NLP. The Parents Are Happy. NLP can Manipulate people to MOVE TOWARDS A BETTER LIFE. NOW, if you could have a better life would you do it?
