This was filmed by Darrell Brown. John Grinder, the co-creator of Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP, widely regarded as the leading edge technology in enhancing human performance. In this video John Grinder discusses the New Code of NLP.

Nah what you’re …
Nah what you’re talking about is Nuero Hypnotic Repatterning. NLP is different for people you ask. Bandler says NLP is the structure of subjective experience. Grinder says its about modeling and everything you need to master “know nothing” states. A good question to ask is, “How would you know you mastered nlp anyway?” After that, start with the Milton model I suggest because its the most fun lol. But i urge you to take an objective standpoint for both co-founders.

So basically I …
So basically I suggest, looking into the models of NLP: Meta Model, Swish Pattern model, milton model, anchoring model, propulsion system model etc. Michael Hall wrote a great book called “The Spirit of NLP”. That covers everything involved in becoming more than competent in the applications of NLP and techniques etc. So start there, and see where it takes you!

nlp is mapping other success thinking maps? taking out the bad thinking patterns and replacing them with new ones? did i get it right… say if i wanted to master nlp.. were is the best place to start..in other words.. tell me the steps.

he said it. ” …
he said it. “modelling excellence” he said words like strategies, accelerate learning strategies, program to explore one state of learning behavior – excellence. i think that problem for most people is recognizing that no matter what body of knowledge you learn application is key. nlp provides tools. grinder says a very intellectual definition. this guys a genius. i think sometimes they forget who the audience is. i can understand that people could be put off by this definition.

For our application …
For our application courses there are no prerequisites however for our Grad Cert NLP program people need a degree or an advanced diploma to gain entry. There are specific patterns modelled in NLP used by Derren Brown including calibration, milton model, sensory acuity, pattern detection, attention training and anchoring. All covered in the Grad Cert NLP program.

Are there any …
Are there any pre-requisites, prior training or backgound you must have before you start learning NLP or can anyone jump into it. And how much of derren brown’s uses of NLP in his show pertain to the overall applications of NLP?

One distinction is …
One distinction is to continue to model in a “know-nothing state” until you reach criteria. For the target skill keep modelling until you can achieve a similar outcome in a similar time frame for that skill. There are multiple skills made up of multiple patterns carried by Geniuses. A skilled modeller may become more skilled than the Genius modeled. Part of the modelling process is dropping out non-essential patterns. One can generalise the patterns modelled from an expert to other contexts.

I’m impressed by …
I’m impressed by Tony Robbins, and Grinder, and think modelling is powerful, but a question comes to mind. Aren’t they overselling it by claiming you can produce the same results as a genius by modelling them? “Success leaves clues” Robbins says, but what about differences in natural abilities? Surely we can’t all be as funny as Robin Williams or Jim Carey simply by modelling them, though I’m sure we could become a whole lot funnier than we were before.

“…one of the most …
“…one of the most common ways of avoiding seeing truth – the particular form of “resistance” generally used by intellectuals in psychotherapy – is to make an abstract or logical principle out of the problem, and generally by enough clever intellectualizing one can arrive at a fine-looking solution which is so fascinating.” -Rollo May

Yes. First …
Yes. First reproduce the skill and then you can build an explicit description of its components as a model for transfer to other if you choose to. We teach NLP modelling as part of our post-graduate qualification the Graduate Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Seems to me the kind of thing you learn by doing it rather than trying to make sense of its definition. Clearly a very intelligent man.

Wanting research …
Wanting research that substantiates NLP (a new field) is like wanting research that substantiates psychology (an established field). In psychology researchers test hypotheses and build theories. NLP deals in models rather than theory. In NLP skilled trainers and modelers create models of high performers. The test is whether other people applying the patterns that have been modeled can achieve similar outcomes to the expert in a similar time frame.

The more I learn …
The more I learn about NLP the madder I get at my past encounters with psychologists and psychiatrists, especially for not advising me that it exists in any form… and then I want to work harder at it and research it more because it really does work for me (and it’s oddly fun). It’s been helpful in many ways in just a couple of days of practice and I’ve been overcoming myself and my own thoughts and have been feeling a lot better. Thank you for the video!
