I couldn't agree more with your point about being open to seeking out opportunities in smaller cities. You will likely have more opportunities and responsibilities working for a company in a smaller city than in say NYC. And as a fellow midwest transplant, I can attest that Columbia, Kansas City and St. Louis are all great places to live and work!
