Is the US in the process of becoming a police state?
If there is an overwhelmingly powerful force that seeks to eliminate any inkling of resistance as soon as it emerges, how is it possible to progress the suppressed without being discovered or destroyed?
Our 4th amendment has already been slashed by the government, the 2nd amendment is in the process of being slashed, and the 1st is already severely restricted in Britain. Soon we will see complete tyranny in the form of a police state.
Some examples of this in effect right now are surveillance cameras on the streets, warrant-less searches of citizens’ homes, gun registration laws, restriction of recording public places or protesting in England, and many more in the near future.

As politicians alway brag that it is free state.
And free state can become what ever it wishes to be.
And free state always wishes what its politicians wishes(in most of the cases not the publics wishes)
Now the question is what is the wish of our politicians?

Interesting theories, but as long as we the people don’t let it happen, it won’t. We can prevent it by making intelligent, logical choices based on fact every November.
Why are you worried about the Constitutional amendments as they apply to Great Britain? Not to be rude, but it’s our Constitution; the Britons have those same rights, but they can’t claim protection under our Constitution without being a citizen of the country for which it serves as a foundation.

Disaster after disaster. Is the Earth trying to tell us that we are making her sick. It hurts to see this happening to the fine Japanese people. I swear the Earth is crying.

Deeps, Yes to all of the above. From everything that we experince we learn something that helps us grow and move forward, something harden in us that helps us continue what we've been doing, a spark ignite in us that helps us be more aware, a voice speaks to us that helps us converse with a power within and beyond us, the instinct in us will help us decide if we need to be kind or not and the faith in us will create hope for a better tomorrow. For you, for me and for the entire Human race

The discrepancies in school aid cuts boggle the mind. I live in an upstate school district with 973 students. Our aid was cut by $1.6 million. Making up that money would require a 40 percent increase in the tax levy.

Hi Richard, thanks!
What do we mean by saying that “it is an outcome of *a random process*” if not that there is no reason why the “outcome” is as it is?
So, I don't think that we can specify “it is an outcome of a random process” as a reason for something being without a reason. It, seems to me, that “outcome of a random process” is just a way of saying that there is no reason why the “outcome” is as it is.
By the way, nice post on Sam Harris’ talk. I look forward to more.

Braxton Family Values is a great show. I love
I don't really see the value in the gun registry. I don't think the police have been able to adequately demonstrate or explain why they need it. Others may disagree.
That said, this column is hilarious. And I don't mean Feschuk's insertions.
My fave:
While police can and should be consulted on the efficacy of current policies, police chiefs should not be lobbying to tell the government which laws it should adopt.
God forbid the police should weigh in on law enformcement policy.
Perhaps we should exclude doctors from weighing in on medical legislation. Or teachers on education legislation. Or statisticians on statistics Canada legislation. Good times.

I like the image you have portrayed through CNBC and the elongated figures. I feel when I look at this that the individuals are losing hope becoming thinner and thinner unable to escape. As much as these individuals wish to be saved they cannot overcome the ongoing display of information coming into their brains. Great job and awesome color contrast.
It is very useful.
