IT is the temptation of the proud intellect. You see it on Y!A all the time.
Since only you are around at your Judgment and it is by your conscience that you go to Hell, then your whole goal in life is to make sure you obey the right authority and don’t obey the wrong one.
Moral philsophy assures us that we have to 1) obey our conscience, even a false one and 2) we must inform that conscience, not letting ignorance be our excuse.

So you are right. You must find the right moral authority or you are acting sinfully. Good post.

Take the Divine Command Theory, and if god (authority) tells his people to murder entire cities of people, because he thinks its good then you would have to do it. If that is the case, then where does your standard for what is "good" come from?

Morals and ethics come from Normative Ethical Theories, such as Utilitarianism, which have little or nothing to do with religion.
