A new bill quietly introduced by congress last week is causing quite a stir among civil liberties groups. The brainchild of senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman, the bill would give the United States government the power to indefinitely detain terror suspects without charge or trial. It would also allow the government to interrogate them for the intelligence value and it doesnt make a distinction between US citizens and non-citizens.

@TheObtuseRubberGoose you are totally ignorant to the past judgements if you believe this is inaccurate. Perhaps you should reread the patriot act. It is against the law to threaten the president as is. Thats just one law that can be abused.

Im afraid your wrong, the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″ outlines terrorism as;
“Ideologically Based Violence – the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs.[8]”
In turn the goverment can arrest anyone at any given time, without trial as “terrorist”.
Americans need to …

for the person to be detained:
(1) has engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners;
(2) has purposely and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners; or
(3) was a part of Al Qaeda at the time of capture.
From the bill:
“The term ‘hostilities’ means any conflict subject to the laws of war, and includes a deliberate attack upon civilians and civilian targets protected by the laws of war.”

@talllikelurchis those who seem that they can be a threat. Basically were losing our freedom of speech, it says if they don’t like what were doing, talking against new bills. We go to jail, for indefinitely if necessary. And as things change in the world, im sure there is going to be reasons to hold even small suspects for a very long time.
thank you for your sons protecting the country, but you cant use that as a way to find sympathy on a form as this.

These journalist …
These journalist are full of shit…..The detainee can only be held for 48 hours, unless otherwise the sufficient amount of reason to hold the detainee……The bill is to target those impose a threat to the securities of the country! It’s funny how liberals don’t feel that America is worth protecting or defending. I have a son in Iraq and a nephew in Afghanistan, it sickens me to read the negative comments that liberals leave for them. Liberals seem to cater to terrorist, but will kill a baby?
