Thank you again…from that perspective it will be a passion turned into a hobby when you calculate the cost, availability etc…already I have a studio set up and am utilizing the computer, HD recorder, mixer etc…to some avail but most definitely at some point will integrate reel to reel. As far as logic would you recommend logic 9 or Pro tools, for the beginner? Also, do you have anything you have recorded I could hear?

Reel to reel is expensive. Good machines cost money and need frequent maintenance/calibration. Don’t forget on a reel you’ll only get between 20 and 30 minutes recording per tape and nowadays that tape has become both hard to get and expensive. The guys that made the tunes of the 80s usually nowadays have Macs running Logic although any current software should in theory be able to produce the same level of quality. It’s whatever you’re comfortable with or whatever you can afford.

Thank you so much for your response…I went on ebay and some other sites and priced some reel to reel recorders and want to incorporate them into digital recording…do you feel something like Pro Tools, Cakewalk or some other software set up would be preferable?
