If you are LDS, couldn’t the requirement for your young men to preform a 2 year “mission” be considered “sacrificing” themselves to “God”?

It depends on your definition of Christian. Story of sacrificed children are written in Old testament. Abraham trying to kill his own son to prove his faith etc etc. Christians deny this was their custom in the ancient times but it clearly was. Bible itself is a translated documents from different language.
