If you're active-duty, chances are very good that you'll deploy, and soon after you finish training. As for Infantry-type combat, you could see a firefight for sure, but that's not really your job. You'll probably be working closely with SF and other SpecOps units, delivering "product" and doing loudspeaker broadcasts. It's hard to say, because every BN has a different job, depending on where they are deployed to. Fact is, when you are in Afghanistan, it doesn't matter what your MOS is, you can get caught up in a battle easily. IED's are a big problem, too. If you're worried about combat, I wouldn't join the Army, and no offense meant by that either.

I was a 37F, and everyone of us deployed - most to Afghanistan, but a good many to Iraq. As for the reserve units under USACAPOC, they deploy less, but there is still a good chance of being deployed. This MOS, along with Civil Affairs, is a much-needed MOS at this point. You should also investigate Civil Affairs MOS.

As for tactical PSYOP, it's actually pretty tough to get into. Tactical PSYOP is performed by 9th Battalion, 4th POG. You need good scores on your coursework, and you need to max the APFT. Not too many people are sent to 9th BN, and you don't get to choose where you are sent. Your instructors will know you all very well, and they kind of let the command know who should go where. From my class, only two guys went to 9th BN.

All in all, it's a pretty damned good MOS, but I think if I did it over, I would have a tough time between chossing this and Infantry.
